Why Tire-Pressure Monitoring Belongs on Every Trailer

Tires are the most expensive consumable on a trailer and the hardest to keep an eye on. They sit at the back of the fleet, out of sight, quietly losing pressure until a driver feels the pull or hears the bang. By then the cheap fix is long gone.

The cost of a soft tire

An underinflated tire is not just a blowout waiting to happen. It also:

  • Burns more fuel — rolling resistance climbs as pressure drops.
  • Wears unevenly, cutting tread life and forcing early replacement.
  • Runs hotter, which is what turns "low" into a roadside failure.

None of that shows up on a dashboard if nobody is measuring it. A manual pressure check catches problems once a week at best — tires lose pressure every day.

How tire-stem sensors work

A tire-pressure monitoring sensor screws onto the valve stem and reports the pressure and temperature of that tire continuously. On its own, a sensor is just a reading nobody sees. Paired with a tracker that acts as a Bluetooth gateway, those readings ride to the cloud alongside the trailer’s GPS position — every position, all the time.

From reading to alert

The point is not a wall of numbers. It is the alert that fires when a tire drops below threshold, while the trailer is still in the yard and a technician can walk over with a gauge — instead of a call from the shoulder of the interstate. Pressure and temperature per position, on the same map as everything else you track.

A small sensor, a big miss to avoid
